Past Continuous

Past Continuous употребляется для описания действия, происходившего в определенный момент в прошлом (этот прошедшей момент может быть выражен другим однократным действием (обычно в Past Simple) или указанием времени), или действие, занимающее некоторый период времени в прошлом.

I was watching TV. – You were watching TV. – They were watching TV.

When saw  them they were playing football. While I was reading my mother was cooking dinner.

What were you doing at 5 o’clock yesterday? – I was watching TV.
Подсказка:
Past Continuous часто употребляется после союза while (пока, в то время как), а так же с выражениями from 5 till 6, the whole evening (весь вечер), the whole day yesterday… .
They were playing football at 5.00

You were playing the piano  when I left.
When the children came home, their mother was cooking dinner
Ann was reading from 6 till 7.
